Ideating and scoping the project with the client and customers

Creating bespoke jewellery for clients, mostly focused on engagement and wedding rings the customer experience is paramount in the continued success of the business. Conducting interviews with the client and stakeholders I found that the process of creating the jewellery is an iterative process of collecting client requirements, producing CAD models through to 3D printing and finally producing the finished product.

The time consuming stage is where the client to tries on the 3D print of their bespoke ring. There will often be amendments which will begin the whole process again meaning the jewellery designers must amend their CAD models, 3D print and request the customer to come in to try the 3D print on again, quite often asking for more amendments. I set out to streamline this process, working closely with product owners, client and engineering team to formulate product features of a mobile app which would greatly improve the customer experience.

Designing a bespoke jewellery customisation tool and AR experience

I designed an application which enables customers to view their bespoke ring in augmented reality and make any amendments needed in app, reducing the amount of delays and contact time, providing a more fluid customer experience. The 3D view allows users to manipulate and customise individual parts of the jewellery while the AR view allows you to see how it would look on your person. Customers can view it at home, share it to friends and family which helps take the pressure off any decision making, ensuring a higher rate of customer satisfaction.

Since their collaboration, the client had had great success in the launch of the application. After my suggestions during the product roadmapping stage they’ve brought the app onto tablet, enabling them to place tablets in their reception, allowing people to browse and try on their library of past designs in augmented reality, giving them a clearer idea of what they’d like before their very first meeting. They have also hired new employees to work on the platform and seen great improvements in the customer experience.
